Harvesting Borage

While planting the veg plot we had room for some companion plants like Marigolds for carrots and one that sounded interesting was Borage (an excellent companion plant for tomatoes) – a herb with bright blue, star-shaped flowers which you can use in salads, the leaves apparently resembles that of cucumber, though we haven’t used them. Also Borage flowers and leaves can be used as decoration for gin-based summer cocktails, and may be set in ice cubes to garnish other drinks.Borage is rich in minerals, especially potassium. The bees love it and while I was picking flowers they kept harrassing me – ‘get lost! it’s our food!’ (said with a buzzy accent)
