Digging deep for Welsh slate

Living in Wales we thought we would use local materials for the hard landscaping in our garden. Decided on slate, Heather Blue – purple blue in colour for the patio and paths. Found a local quarry that would supply slate chippings for the paths – thought we could reduce the amount of slate waste spoiling the hills!

Nearly had a heart attack when it came to the price for the patio – Welsh slate might well be the finest in the world, but at £75sqm it’s comparable to Italian marble! If there is aup side to this it is the fact that it will be environmentally friendly – moving a couple of tonnes of local slate 50 miles to our house makes more sense then importing it from China or Brazil.
