Painting a sailing dinghy

A year ago our back garden featured in an ad for Persil (Michael Owen lived on our street when he was a kid and the ad makers wanted some realism when filming a ‘flashback ad featuring him) the money we were paid went towards buying a Heron sailing dinghy (built in the 60s) off our friends – a wooden boat which needed some tlc. Apart from buying a trailer for it it has remained unloved on the drive – one of those ‘one day’ projects. This weekend we decided to get it ready for the water again. After filling her up (the boats name is Jemima) with water to see if there were any leeks (which there were plenty!) we flipped the boat over and began the slow process of stripping off the loose paint and filling the holes – with the weather in the 30s it ws ideal weather, though I was in danger of turning the same colour as the boat! Anyway got a coat of paint on by the end of the day – only 3 more to go, and then there’s the varnishing, repairing the seat, installing new float bags etc etc….
